Brasil's BRICS Presidency organized a meeting with members of the group to present priorities for the Finance Track in 2025. The event occurred on the sidelines of the meeting of G20 vice ministers of Finance in Cape Town, South Africa.
The BRICS vice ministers meeting was co-chaired by the Brazilian Ministry of Finance and Brasil’s Banco Central (BC). Ambassador Tatiana Rosito, Secretary of International Affairs at the Ministry of Finance, and BC Director Paulo Pichetti, represented the country.
“In the BRICS Finance Track, we unfolded the general priorities established by the Brazilian presidency of the group. Some of the issues elected as priority by Brasil are directly part of our discussions in our Track. We believe that the agenda proposed to the other countries expresses the relevance we attribute to the group, whose importance for multilateralism must be highlighted,” Rosito explained.
Six priority themes were presented: facilitation of trade and investments among BRICS countries, including means of payment; coordination of action in international financing organizations; and promotion of financing and new instruments to address climate change and dialogue about COP30. The themes also included advancement in dialogue and cooperation in PPPs, taxation and customs issues; promotion of improvements in AI regulation and oversight; and promotion of discussion with think tanks and civil society, including the BRICS Think Tank Finance Network.
“We were successful in our choice, which reflects Brasil's direction based on the discussions already held within the group. The delegations responded well, and Brasil values the contributions of the members. Moreover, as part of Brasil’s coordination, we will present these topics to civil society in meetings scheduled for March,” added Ambassador Tatiana Rosito.
On February 24, Rio de Janeiro was confirmed as host of the BRICS Ministers of Finance and Central Banks meeting, scheduled for July 5. The event will be preceded by the meeting of the New Development Bank (NDB) Governing Council.
