Federal Government holds first meeting of the BRICS Agriculture Working Group

The event will take place on February 20-21, with a press conference scheduled for the 21st at 11:30 AM in Brasília.

The BRICS Agriculture Working Group (AWG), coordinated by Brasil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Ministério da Agricultura e Pecuária /Mapa), will begin its activities on February 20 and 21. During the meeting, experts from member countries will discuss strategies to address global agricultural challenges and strengthen cooperation in the sector. Representatives from the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming (Ministério do Desenvolvimento Agrário e Agricultura Familiar/MDA) and the Ministry of Fishing and Aquaculture (Ministério da Pesca e Aquicultura /MPA) will participate in the event.

The BRICS countries play an essential role in global food security, nutrition, and the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices. Several of them are among the largest global exporters of products such as meat, sugar, barley, corn, rice, soybeans, peas, and wheat.

BRICS is a grouping composed of eleven countries: Brasil, Russia, India, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the, United Arab Emirates. The bloc serves as a platform for political and diplomatic coordination among Global South nations, promoting cooperation in various areas.
