First meeting of BRICS Information Technology and Communications Working Group is scheduled for March 7
Brasil’s Ministry of Communications leads group that discusses issues related to connectivity, space and environmental sustainability, and digital ecosystem.
On March 7, the BRICS Information Technology and Communications Working Group will have its first meeting, through videoconferencing. The Brazilian Ministry of Communications (Ministério das Comunicações/MCom) leads the group that discusses issues related to connectivity; space and environmental sustainability; and digital ecosystem.
Taking into consideration that a significant part of the world population still does not have access to basic technology and other essential tools, the efforts of the Working Group are indispensable to promoting public policies to address these challenges.
The Brazilian delegation is composed of technicians from the ministries of Communications and Foreign Affairs, the National Telecommunications Agency (Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações/ANATEL), as well as partner organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Regional Center of Studies for the Development of the Information Society (Centro Regional de Estudos para o Desenvolvimento da Sociedade da Informação/CETIC.BR).
On Friday (7), at the end of the meeting, technicians from MCom will host a press conference at the BRICS headquarters, in Brasilia, to present an overview of the themes discussed by the Group.
In addition to Brasil, members of the ITC Group include all invited countries: Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Group plays a key role in aligning the country members on issues such as public communications strategies, information dissemination, and technological exchange.
The second meeting of the ITCs WG will be held in April, with the presentation of the “BRICS Green Digital Action” seminar.
