Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the BRICS Youth Council held its second meeting this week under Brasil’s presidency. Discussions focused on facilitating the participation of member and partner countries in the Youth Summit, planning national activity schedules aligned with the designated thematic pillars, and organizing a two-month series of seminars.
The regional seminars will be launched on April 2 in Salvador, Bahia, in partnership with the State of Bahia’s Youth Council (Conselho Estadual de Juventude) and Youth Coordination Office (Coordenação de Juventude). This first-of-its-kind initiative by the Brazilian presidency aims to strengthen civil society participation through People-to-People (P2P) agendas. The seminars will be held online in April and May, with registration opening soon.
“This second meeting allowed us to understand the expectations and plan the activities to be carried out by the member countries. The ‘Youth and BRICS’ regional seminars will expand social participation in the processes and also serve as an opportunity to select the Brazilian youth to take part in the Summit discussions in June," explained Nilson Florentino Júnior, from the National Youth Secretariat.
The activities planned by the youth groups from the member countries will address the following themes:
Social Participation, Social Work, and Volunteering (South Africa).
Education, Skills, and Training (Russia).
Science, Technology, and Innovation (China, Ethiopia);
Youth Entrepreneurship (India).
Development and the Fight Against Hunger and Inequality (Egypt).
Health and Sports (Indonesia).
Youth, Environment, and Sustainability (United Arab Emirates).
At the conclusion, activities and initiatives already underway or set for launch were also presented. These include the BRICS Education Expedition (BEE), coordinated by Russia; the World Youth Development Forum, led by China; and the Training of Trainers (TOT), organized by Egypt.
